Armenia’s Tech Talent on Display at #createTogether Hackathon & Pitching Events

On October 2-7, HyeTech brought together major stakeholders across the Armenian local and diaspora startup community to converge on Yerevan for #createTogether, a series of tech events designed to unite the ecosystem and create lasting connections.

The full week of events included a walking tech tour of Yerevan, participation in the DigiTec Expo 2015, the Yerevan Half Marathon, networking, and fireside chats, topped off by a group trip to Gyumri’s emerging tech centers.

The highlights of the event were the Pitch Sessions and Hackathon. Over 20 teams pitched their late or early stage ideas to a panel of judges who selected winners to win cash prizes to jumpstart their development.

The winners of the late stage pitch contest were Skycryptor, an innovative cloud encryption service, which one first place, and runner up Localz which is a mobile marketplace for tour guides and tourists. First place in the early stage category was Challenger, a mobile app which attempts to solve procrastination. In second place, EventGeek is working to streamline event management and organization for teams.

The hackathon, hosted by Kolba Lab and PicsArt, brought 14 team together and lasted through the night, culminating in a tie for first place between Video Note, an app that allows users to draw comments, notes, and marks on a video while it is in playback, and BiLogin, a universal web login platform, helping websites and apps to easily implement login/signup processes without a password. The winner for best social app at the hackathon was a platform designed to help users find the nearest water fountain in Yerevan.

HIVE sponsored #createTogether to offer prizes to winning startups as they begin their journey from idea to scale. Other sponsors include Granatus Ventures and the Margarian Law Firm, which offered free legal services to the winners as well.

We look forward to seeing how the teams begin to develop their startups to take them to the next level and look forward to the next gathering of the Armenian tech community in Yerevan. Check out the hackathon video from UNDP's Kolba Lab below:
